Planning for 2016 gets under way

Planning for the 2016 Devizes Food Festival is getting under way in earnest now. Ambitious plans to expand and improve the programme of events on Market Day are taking shape. The Committee have agreed to continue the emphasis on promoting local Devizes and Wiltshire traders.

If the weather holds again next year, May 14th 2016 should be a great day!

Welcome to the new Devizes Food Festival website

The Devizes Food Festival website has a new look this year.
We have adopted a blog-style format which will enable us to continuously update the information, particularly in the weeks leading up to the Festival and during the event itself.

facebook-logoYou can contact us through the profile page .
You are also welcome to add comments to the posts here,
but the main forum for chatter about the Festival will remain
our facebook page which is unaffected by the change.

We hope you enjoy the 2016 Devizes Food and Drink Festival!

Festival Baking Competition

Successful Baking!
.
The popular baking competition is returning to the 2016 Devizes Food Festival in a completely new format. The famous Victoria Sponge competition will be taking a rest and there will be 4 new classes to compete in. Children get their own cake decorating competition.

You may think the 'Great British Bake-off' is tough, but judges from the WI who will be judging the efforts of our entrants are renowned for their strictness!

Our Sponsor - Martin Walker

A big thank you to our sponsor!

The Devizes Food and Drink Festival is sponsored by
Martin Walker Estate Agents and chartered surveyors.

Devizes Food and Drink Festival is a community event and it is fitting that our greatest supporter in recent years is a prominent, locally-based business, Martin Walker Estate Agents and Surveyors

Founder of the business, Martin Walker, is a Chartered Surveyor and Independent Estate Agent with over 25 years’ experience in the Devizes area and a team of dedicated property specialists.

Over the last 2 years, in a period of major change for the Festival organisation, Martin's sponsorship has been instrumental in ensuring that the Festival is able to continue and thrive and he has kindly agreed to continue this support for the 2016 Festival.

Martin said 'I am pleased to support any venture that encourages visitors to our historic market town'

Supporters of the Festival Events Programme (2015)

I talked about principal supporters of the 2015 Devizes Food and Drink Festival in my last post but the Devizes Food Festival Could not possibly take place without the many local businesses who put on special events that make our week long celebration so special.

 Vaughan's Kitchen - Bistro logo

Peter Vaughan is a stalwart supporter of the Festival and  this year his Vaughan's Kitchen businesses in the town put on two events, "A Night in San Sebastian" at The Bistro and a Mezze Cookery Class at the Cookery School which sold out very quickly.

Giovanni Campanella

Another long time supporter of the Festival is Giovanni (above) who continues to support the Festival from his Dolcipani Bakery Business since his popular Isola Bella Restaurant closed. Giovanni achieved national celebrity in 2014/5 (see his site) and his spectacular Sicilian Festival night is a mini-Food Festival in it's own right and deservedly our best attended event.

Bengal Bite Indian Restaurant and takeaway

The third of our long term supporters is Hussein of the Bengal Bite Restaurant whose Bangla Banquet this year boasted a most unusual menu and was better attended than ever.

Jo Batchelor (left) of Devizes Books

Devizes Bookshop sells tickets for the Devizes Food Festival of course but in 2015 Jo (above) rejoined the Events Listing as well by putting on the 'Darling Spuds of May' Literary Supper. This event had the distinction of being the first to sell out!

Cosy Surroundings at The Black Swan

The Black Swan in Market Square joined us for the first time this year and provided a successful and memorable "Argentinian Fire Pit Hogget" lunch. There was an unexpected surprise when the famous chef Marco Pierre White turned up to help cook the Hogget.

 The Bear Hotel, Devizes

The Bear Hotel always takes part in the Devizes Food Festival and has provided a varied range of events over the years. In 2015 they provided an Organic Dinner and the Festival arranged for Helen Browning of the Soil Association to speak. The Bear took the trouble to source delicious organic ingredients not available from their usual suppliers for this event.

Thank you to all of these friends of the Festival
and our sponsors and raffle supporters

Thank you to our Sponsor and Supporters

While Martin Walker is our principal sponsor ,
the Devizes Food Festival also recieves help from other businesses in the town

In 2015 the Festival also received support from The Vaults Ale House , a more recent arrival in the town. Their inventive "Drinking in the Dark" event was a notable addition to the Festival diary and was very well attended. Malcolm said - "The Food Festival week was our best ever since the Vaults opened".

Thanks are also due to Devizes Town Council who allow us the use of the Market Square for our Festival Market and also provide the glittering Assembly Rooms for the Cocktail Evening. (2015 event)

Thanks to Wiltshire Council and Tom Ince in particular
who helped us put on the market in 2015.

The Southgate Inn on the edge of town sponsored their own event in 2015, the "Bangers and Beer" night which also launched their own five day beer and cider festival, run in conjunction with the Food and Drink Festival.

The Festival organisers thank all these organisations and businesses for their generous support.

Of course, the Festival could not take place without our other partners in the town who put on the wide range of events that make the Devizes Food Festival a uniquely quirky celebration of the town and it's food businesses. Read about our event partners and raffle supporters

Devizes Food Festival Nourishes The Devizes Community

This Is Wiltshire: Devizes Food and Drink Festival treasurer Dave Mitchell and chairman Philippa Morgan present a cheque to Devizes Mayor Roger Giraud-Saunders who is accompanied by his wife Giovanna
Philippa and Dave presenting a cheque to the Mayor and Mayoress
at this autumn's Heritage Day

Devizes Food and Drink Festival aims to provide an enjoyable week of food-themed events for the people of Devizes and the surrounding area, but the money raised also helps to support other groups working to benefit our community. This year's Festival was our most successful for some years with increased ticket sales and a healthy financial surplus. As a result we were able to contribute £300 to the Mayor's Fund (above) and £200 to Devizes Food Bank this year.

We were also able to help several other local charities (including Sustainable Devizes, Marie Curie, Lions and The Secret Garden Project) by providing them with stalls at the Grand Festival Market.

We also supported the Prisoner Rehabilitation Programme at Earlestoke prison and the Nursteed Centre for disabled people by including events organised by them in our programme.

Last but not least we were partnered by the Devizes Scouts who delivered our programmes to local homes in return for a contribution to their Jamboree Fundraising.

In total we returned about 30% of this year's Festival proceeds to local groups.
