The Prohibition Party - Devizes’ best kept secret…

Ssssh! Don't tell everyone!
You are invited to enjoy some brilliant music, lively company and vintage cocktails at the Devizes Food and Drink Festival 'Speakeasy'.You can indulge in the glamour of a bygone era, for one night only on Friday 20th May.

Champagne with  Citron by Thomas Weiss (freeimages)
Harking back to the days of the roaring twenties, at the Devizes 'Speakeasy' you can experience the thrills of partying during the prohibition.
There will be canapés and a selection of eight, deliciously wicked cocktails from the era of guys and molls the likes of which you've never tasted before! Or maybe one or two of you have - the grapevine tells me that some folks in Devizes are pretty partial to the old 'Alabama Cocaine', innocently consuming it under another name in years gone by - but the wraps are off now.

And if you're in a mood for living dangerously try the 'Cuba Libre' or the 'Tikky-Peeky', but book a cab home guys!

For more sensible folks there'll be Shirley Temples and other fruity delights.
♪♫♫♪ All this plus fantastic live music
from singer-songwriter-pianist Archie 'fingers' Coombe. ♪♫♫♪♫

The Prohibition Party will give you the chance to step back in time and enjoy at first hand a decade that is more fabulous than you can imagine.

Just to keep things respectable, we'll be drawing a raffle for the Mayor's Fund
and rumour has it that some pretty important people will be there.
(Just don't ask them where they've been for the last 12 months!)

Entrance is by exclusive ticket and provides you with canapés* and three free cocktails. Further cocktail tokens will be available for you to purchase on the night.

Dress code? Think 1920s glamour,
look to Bugsy Malone, Boardwalk Empire and The Great Gatsby for inspiration!
Buy your tickets now before they run out!

Ssssh! It's at Devizes Town Hall
Venue: The Assembly Room, Devizes Town Hall
Date: Friday 20th May, doors open at 7.30pm (ask for Bugsy)
Tickets:- £20 each, in advance only, from Food Festival Outlets - Jo knows where
 Book on-line   (read about costs)

Argentinian Hogget at the Black Swan

Last year's Argentinian Fire Pit  Hogget
was such a success (sold out!)
that we're doing it again for 2016.

One cooked hogget in 2015
The fire pit is a sort of barbecue, while a hogget is a lamb
that is over one year old and thus has more flavour.
This article describes how the taste of Patagonian Lamb develops with this traditional cooking method - although we can't recommend the equally traditional method he describes for obtaining the lamb!

Lamb Hogget
served with a South American salad
(a vegetarian dish will also be available)
Bar service and the Swan's normal menu (for desserts etc.)
 will operate as usual.
Black Swan - the back room

Date:- Saturday 21st May, 1pm onwards
Ticket price:- £12
Tickets available from Food Festival outlets and the venue
Book on-line - (read about costs)

Did You Know?

RMS Titanic by FGO Stuart
Devizes is well-known for it's modern day links to the Titanic, which our local Auction house makes it's speciality. Now the Devizes Food and Drink Festival is creating links of it's own. Like all the top cruise liners, top quality food for first class passengers was a priority. The Titanic was the first cruise ship to be equipped with the special oven needed to cook 'Viennoise' bread.

Now you can sample this upper crust food yourself at the Festival Bistro event,
on May 18th 2016
