Regency Cooking School

Devizes is a town that is full of architectural reminders of the Regency period.  As 2017 is the 200th anniversary of the death of Jane Austen, we thought it appropriate to mark this with a reminder of the sort of food that would have been popular at that time.  So this evening will be based on a three course meal dedicated to dishes from the period. It will include a Regency-style cheesecake, mentioned by Jane Austen in a letter to her sister in 1799 from Devizes.

 as to endear the town of Devizes to them for a long time.”

On arrival there will be Negus to try (with a bit of history)

The menu will be:
  • Salmagundi – you have to be there to find out more!
  • Roast ham with carrot pudding - delicious
  • Bath Buns
  • Regency-style cheesecake 
This will be a busy hands-on session.  Everything will be provided and you will sit down for supper to eat some of what you have made and have plenty to take home as well.

(This evening is designed to complement the 'Regency Supper' Event at the Bistro on the preceding evening).

This menu can be adapted for vegetarians, gluten free and dairy free
but only if we know in advance!
